To create the perfect layout we had to plan the template for the front cover. This essentially would determine how the audience perceive the magazine and would be responsible for how effective it is. This is because of the positioning of the main cover line and the main image. We wanted to ensure that the audience's attention would be focused on the main cover line therefore it was essential that we found the perfect template. The last template was reversed during the construction but we had initially gone with the last template design.
We began planning the magazine cover in Microsoft Word. This was easy to use and allowed us to experiment with what looked good. We had originally decided on the masthead of 'SW', however we later changed this to 'RKC'. This was due to personal preference as we believed the 'RKC' looked more stylish and this would hail the audience's attention.
The image used changes at the last minute as we decide that in fact we are not happy with the original picture. As all the other details on the cover had been sorted, only the image needed changing. This allowed us to then move on with construction.
We decided on our planning and decided to go with this image. However we had to Photoshop the picture to airbrush the model as all magazines do this. The background was chosen in an ombre style as it was thought it made the magazine look more stylish. The colour choice was important as we wanted to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month, therefore we chose the colour pink.
A series of different fonts were tried on in different colours to see which would stand out most effectively.
Cover lines were put on and it was decided that we would change the layout of the magazine from what we had originally chosen to follow. This is because of the final picture and we wanted to make sure the cover lines were easy to read. We used different fonts in our cover lines as we wanted to make the cover interesting. Also it was conventional of any magazine to use a variety of fonts on the front cover.
Final touches were also put on such as the bar code.
