These are templates we created as our research showed us there are many ways of structuring a magazine contents page. There were a few we liked so we planned out a few styles for us to choose from.
The next stage of planning, we spent a lot of time creating the content of our contents page. So, we went back to our research and it helped us to think of ideas for our pages. In the large square box is where we wrote our editor's letter for this edition separately. The next 2 screen shots show the basic template we created and began to develop. We really liked the idea of it being simple with bright pictures and bold numbers.
We then began to insert our content into the template and include our pictures and change the colours which associate with this editions feature 'BREAST CANCER'.
We began construction in InDesign however, it was very difficult to insert and edit pictures in this programme so we created it in Photoshop instead. Here, we began to edit the pictures we will be inserting in the contents page. These screen shots show step by step the techniques we used to create a better picture. We also edited the font and positioned it in line with the issue date.
The next stage was inserting our text we planned previously in a document into Photoshop. As the screen shots show we then decided to completely change our contents style. We wanted our theme to be more identifiable so we created a shimmer effect which we learned how to do on photoshop. It took a lot of practising and very long however we achieved fantastic results.
We used tools on photoshop such as contrasting images to give it a bolder look and stand out against the bright background. To create the lightening look (background for contents) we followed a guide but the main tools were effects, curves, blurring and softening.
After creating this the finishing touches were to insert the pictures and position them. We also had to zoom into the page to see if there were any parts that weren't totally finished. Also included social website links which is a feature of magazines to converge.
The images we included on our contents are related to stories or something that will be featured in our magazine. The large page number shows a glimpse of the article to the reader, persuading them to read more.
